ISSUE TWELVE | SPRING 2019
Yunsun Joo was born and raised in South Korea, and she is currently a student at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California. These nonfiction comics, she calls them “stories,” are pulled directly from her daily experience. They are quiet snapshots of her life, a visual diary.
There is a tension in her work that vibrates somewhere between silly and sad, and she leaves a palpable loneliness in the white space between her drawings. Like most of us, she is trying to be happy. Sometimes she is; sometimes she isn’t.
—Laura Bullard, Nonfiction Co-Editor, Nat. Brut
Yunsun Joo's works are fun, simple, and honest. She never lost her humor under the any circumstances, even if her life is poignant. It is her ultimate goal of her works to give the audiences huge surprising and fun.
